Take These Polls and Shove Them

When will we ever learn?  After Kamala Harris and the Democrat Party went down in flames on November 5th, they weren’t the only ones questioning their political acumen.  I had to look into the mirror too.

What I saw was a radio talk show host who bought the fiction that the battle between Harris and Donald Trump would come down to the wire

That we might not know the outcome for days or even weeks. That Ted Cruz was in big trouble in his U.S. Senate race against Colin Allred and that Texas might edge closer to turning blue.  That’s what I was told.

Here’s what I knew, and ought to have stuck with:  The American people were not buying what Harris was selling, and when she told The View that she couldn’t think of a thing she’d do differently from Biden, that was the final nail in her defeat.

I won’t make that mistake again.

Let’s face it.  Polls have become a waste of time.

I can understand why politicians running for office need them.  They have to find out what the electorate thinks of them, and what issues are rising to the forefront.  But to those of us in the general public – consumers of news and talk – we may have learned a big lesson.  All the time we spent on analyzing the polls in this election was wasted.

Two years ago, we were treated to pollage showing us that the Republicans were going to kick butt.  They called it the “Red Wave,” and it was going to be like a Mighty Wind, sweeping the Democrats into obscurity.  It didn’t happen.

This time around, we were told by most polls that this race was razor-thin and it could be decided by just a couple of swing states – probably just by Pennsylvania alone. What a croc of bull.  We ought to have known it was – I should have – but that didn’t matter.  The story of the polls makes the election more exciting, and sent the network analysts like FOX’s Bill Hemmer, CNN’s John King, and NBC’s Steve Kormacki to stand in front of their humongous programmed video boards to show us every single possibility on how Trump or Harris might get to 270.

We pulled audio clips of these guys and ran them on the Cardle & Woolley Show on Talk1370 – as if they were prophets telling us precisely what to expect on Election Day.  It was all a colossal waste of time.  In any case, (to quote Doris Day), whatever will be will be.  Following the polls is an age-old pastime, but the last two cycles have not been kind to the pollsters.

Here is what we ought to have based our predictions on:

And forgive me, Lord, because I knew better than to believe the polls.  I wrote columns about how insane the Democrats’ policies were, and yet…I still looked at those damned polls.

What really mattered came down to the realities of this race that were right in front of our faces all the time.

Trump won the election, but it is also correct to say the Democrats lost it by essentially going so far to the left that their policies seemed, well, stupid.  There really isn’t another word for it.  Voters simply didn’t want any more Biden, and yet Harris vowed that her values had not changed.

She was always the last person in the room, helping Joe make these terrible decisions – including the disaster that was the Afghanistan Withdrawal.  That event proved to be more significant that January 6.  As bad as Biden was, the electorate could not see Harris standing up to Putin or Xi.  It was laughable to consider.

And this leaves us where?

It leaves us with a polling industry in shambles.  It won’t go away, but fewer people – including me—will pay far less attention.  As for me, I will look at the candidates, their abilities or lack of, their records, the economy, the state of the county and the world, and the issues.  Always look at the issues.  This time, they were inflation, high costs, foreign wars, open borders, migrant crime, and abortion.  That last one turned out to be a so-called “false flag.”  Why?  Because there were millions of voters who support the right to life, but nobody reported on that.

Given these facts, Harris had no better chance than Biden.  Uncle Joe would have lost, perhaps even bigger, and yet he escapes from being defeated by Donald Trump.  That’s pretty much all his legacy will amount to.  And yet, we were supposed to believe that this was going to be the closest presidential race in U.S. history.

There’s just one more poll I’d like to see.  And that would be whether the American media should even bother to report on the polls anymore.  I know how I would respond.  What about you?
