Donald Trump and the Theory of the Junkyard Dog

Official 2025 Inaugural Portrait of Donald Trump by Daniel Torok (Public Domain)

Donald Trump isn’t fooling around.  He’s beating down the establishment from every possible angle.

But can he? And is this the way to get it done?

Frankly, it’s what I voted for.  I wanted a junkyard dog to lay waste to a bloated, ineffective government that needed a severe overhaul.  The new and improved Trump has been coming at them from all sides, at a frantic pace.

From going after the waste in USAID to declaring just two sexes, and imposing an originalist version of birthright citizenship as it was meant to be, he’s remaking the government into what the Framers likely envisioned.  Smaller.  More efficient.  American interests first.

But does he have the power?  Not likely.

And he knows that.  He also knows that he has to get things done now – before the courts stop him – or it will never get done.

What is the Junkyard Dog Theory?

It’s precisely what’s Trump’s doing.  The Junkyard Dog in the Oval Office is like the proverbial Honey Badger.  Honey Badger don’t care, and neither does Junkyard Dog.  The Junkyard Dog looks his political enemies in the eye and tells them they screwed up the country.

He doesn’t care what they think.  He doesn’t care what Congress thinks.  He doesn’t give a fat rat’s rear end about what the Democrats think.  He moves with the speed of light.  His executive orders are aimed at precisely what he said he would do, and what he believes the people want him to do.

He is a traditionalist when it comes to certain truths that were held immutable for 10,000 years, and so he says:  Male and female.  That’s it.  Screw these left-wing ideas about multiple “genders.”  It’s men and woman and boys and girls, and even Disneyland can use those terms again.  He kicks men out of women’s sports.  He aims to fix the prior administration’s immigration insanity through massive deportations.  If you get in his way, his border czar will come for you.

The Junkyard Dog believes that America is a country like no other and that citizenship ought not be cheapened.  So, he works to overturn generations of misinterpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment from judges who are, well, wrong.

The point of the Junkyard Dog Theory is that if something or someone gets in his way, he will trample it or him. He knows he will lose some battles, but he’s fighting on multiple fronts.  He’ll win on some and lose others, but much what he’s trying to accomplish will be hard for the Left to overturn.

Now to the question of can he do it under the Constitution.

Of course not.  Under the constitutional principle of Separation of Powers, no president can do what Trump is doing.  Already, Democrats and left-wing organizations like the ACLU are making lawyers great again.

But two things are at play here.

First, Trump is awakening the country to a new kind of wokeness.  He’s showing the people that Washington can be changed.  He also is demonstrating to spineless conservatives in Congress that they have to jump in and use their power to effect change.  Congress, which for years has delegated its constitutional authority to the president, has stagnated into a body that seeks only reelection and wealth.

Second, he knows that Joe Biden and Barack Obama before him used powers they did not have, and did bad things with them.  Who could forget Obama’s “pen and phone” comment, indicating that he would use executive orders whenever he wanted to.  All presidents like to go around Congress, and so why not Trump? – at least until Congress decides to claim the powers it actually has.  And in this case, reversing some of the crap that Biden put into effect, perhaps two wrongs do make a right.

What about the Democrats’ obsession with Elon Musk?

They hate him, almost more than they hate Trump.  But Musk is part-and-parcel of the Junkyard Dog Theory.  Trump can be a Dog because he’s beaten back all the lawfare against him, and he’s term-limited out.  So, why not do all the things on his to-do list to actually make American great again?  What’s stopping him?

And so it is with Musk.  He’s not eligible to run for president and he’s the world’s richest man.  He doesn’t care about what anyone thinks about his DOGE Commission – and look what it’s already rooted out by looking into USAID!  But why start there, say the Democrats.  Why not start with a bigger agency?  After all, USAID spends just a small percent of the government budget.  This is silly.  The Democrats don’t want to start anywhere.  Cutting one thin dime from the bloated government scares them silly.  DOGE will move on and it will find more waste and needless programs.  Yes, somebody’s ox will be gored.

Somebody, sometime – even it’s when the Democrats are in power – will have to cut back government spending, or the country will collapse.  If not Elon Musk, then who?  Chuck Schumer?  Don’t make me laugh.  What about a congressional committee?  Again, laughable.

In all the parks in all the cities, there are no statues of committees.

There’s a reason for that.  No member of Congress wants to cut back on the pork for his/her state or district.  Congress is essentially unable to cut spending or trim the size of the bureaucracy.  That’s why Donald Trump and Elon Musk have to do it.

But Trump and Musk are just grifters who are in it to enrich themselves, aren’t they?

They’re already rich.  By doing what they’re doing, they risk getting harmed or even killed by the same malignant mindset that tried to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanaugh, and actually bloodied Donald Trump.  Washington as a whole does not want change.  Washington likes Washington the just way Washington is now.  That’s sad, but what it means is that, unless men and woman who are like Junkyard Dogs stand up, American drifts further into debt, and closer to self-annihilation.

So, no.  I don’t think Trump has the power to enforce all the executive orders.  I don’t think they’ll all hold up.

I want to you imagine for a moment that Kamala Harris had become president.

  • The DC spoils system would have become worse that it was under Biden.
  • Harris would have been controlled by a left-wing cabal much as Biden was and that would have kept Hamas in power for a long time.
  • Israel would be in big trouble.
  • So would unborn children.
  • Under Harris, the border would have remained open and drugs and human traffickers would be welcomed.
  • Soros DAs would have continued to be soft on crime.
  • Little boys and girls would be carved up by quack doctors making a fortune off of “gender affirming care.”
  • Government spending would have jumped again as Harris wasted more billions on climate change.
  • Inflation would have spiraled again.
  • Congress would have become even more corrupt.
  • The establishment would have remained fat and happy.
  • In all likelihood, Donald Trump would have gone to prison.

But Trump didn’t go to prison. Instead, he’s the Junkyard Dog who wants to annex Canada, take back the Panama Canal, acquire Greenland, and turn Gaza into a vacation spot. Can he do all these things?  Probably not.  But Joe Biden never had an original idea over 50 years of taking a government check.  In just a couple of weeks, Donald Trump has turned the world upside down with astounding ideas, some of which might come true.  And he’s returned the United States to a country of sanity after four years of unbridled Democrat Party rule that seemed impossible to stop.

With Trump in power for just days, the insane transgender agenda, radical climate change, DEI nonsense, wokeness, cancel culture, men competing in women’s sports – all this seems either gone or on its way out.  Donald Trump did that, and will continue to do it.

As a Junkyard Dog, that’s his job.
