If Joe Biden peddled influence, then Joe Biden must face justice

The charge is that members of the Biden family, including Joe, his son Hunter, and his brother James have engaged in a scheme to peddle and sell access to the highest levels of government in order to get rich.  There may be a there there, or not.

If there is, I want to know all the details, and I want to see consequences. 

The fact that Joe Biden will not serve a second term means nothing.  If Joe and other members of his family have committed crimes that may have compromised U.S. security, those guilty must be charged and tried.

Former FBI Director James Comey laid out a solid case against Hillary and then never pursued it.  Special Counsel Robert Hur said Joe Biden was too old to prosecute in the documents case.

This cannot happen again!

What changes about the influence peddling case with Biden no longer up for reelection.

Nothing.  That’s it.  Full stop, as they say.  Nothing changes.  If Republicans have proof that Biden is too guilty to serve as president, then he is too guilty to avoid punishment.  As Joe himself might put it:  The very idea that Biden could leave office and somehow be immune from his crimes is ridiculous.

Ask yourself if you could get off so easily if you had sold U.S. secrets or taken bribes on behalf of a foreign power.  U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, now known as “Gold Bar Bob,” is one of the few Democrats who was tried twice and finally convicted.  And now will resign.  Heck, if you take cellphone photos on a U.S. ship or submarine, you could be in legal jeopardy.

What is it about certain politicians who can break the law, or be accused of breaking it, and never pay a price?  Exhibit Number One will always be Bill and Hillary Clinton.  Of course, Hillary’s illegal home server is the latest example, but let’s not forget the chain of scandals that took place when Bill and Hill were in the White House.

Starting with Whitewater scandal, and continuing through Bill’s bimbo eruptions, and a host of shady Asian fundraisers, and going all the way to Bill’s questionable pardons at the end of his second term, the Clintons got away with everything.

No one is above the law. 

Or so the Democrats tell us when they’re talking about Donald Trump.

But if it’s Bill, or Hill, or Joe – not so much.  Joe Biden left a trail of classified documents from the Penn Biden Center to his garage in Wilmington – and Hur concluded that a jury would never convict a senile old man.  Just like James Comey concluded that Hillary could not be charged because she was merely incompetent.  This is BS of the highest order.

Are Democrats above the law?  Not all of them.  “Dollar” Bill Jefferson got caught with freezer money.   Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich did jail time on charges of public corruption.  Menendez may do time.

What then, is Joe Biden accused of if not public corruption?

Actually, the charge could be worse than that if it amounts to selling secrets or selling influence.  That’s bad – real bad.  But somehow, the idea that Joe Biden has dropped out of the race for a second term absolves him of all guilt strikes me as elitism.  Biden could be off the hook – depending on what the Committee on Oversight, headed up by Rep. James Comer, decides to do.

Here’s what the Committee has charged:

Chairman James Comer and Oversight Committee Republicans are investigating the Biden family’s domestic and international business dealings to determine whether these activities compromise U.S. national security and President Biden’s ability to lead with impartiality. Members of the Biden family have a pattern of peddling access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves, often to the detriment of U.S. interests. We are committed to following the Biden family and associates’ money trail—consisting of many complex, international transactions worth millions of dollars—and providing answers to the American people. The American people deserve to know whether the President’s connections to his family’s business deals occurred at the expense of American interests and whether they represent a national security threat.

And here is a quote from Chairman James Comer:

Evidence obtained by Committee Republicans reveals Joe Biden lied to the American people about his involvement in his family’s business schemes. The Biden family business model is built on Joe Biden’s political career and connections with Joe Biden as the ‘chairman of the board.’ Biden family members sold access for profit around the world to the detriment of American interests. If President Biden is compromised by deals with foreign adversaries and they are impacting his decision making, this is a threat to national security. The American people deserve transparency and accountability about the Biden family’s influence peddling. With the new Republican majority, Oversight Committee Republicans will continue pressing for answers to inform legislative solutions to prevent this abuse of power.

Will Republicans continue to press for answers?  Will anyone named “Biden” ever face consequences?  Will Joe ever pay a price for demanding a Ukrainian prosecutor involved with Burisma be fired?

If no one is above the law, that ought to include members of the Biden family.

They say things come in threes.

First, Hillary Clinton faced no consequences for her illegal home server because, well, you know the thing.  Second, Joe Biden avoided charges when Robert Hur said he was too demented to stand trial.  Will the Biden family influence peddling round out the three?

I don’t know whether Joe Biden – or Hunter Biden – is guilty of peddling and selling influence.  But I know what Chairman Comer says.  And I know that Joe Biden owns some really nice real estate.  And I know that no one is above the law.

Actually, it appears that the Clintons and the Bidens are above the law.  I call on Republicans (because Democrats will never do it) to continue this investigation and turn it over to the Justice Department at the appropriate time.

Let the Democrats continue their charade of turning Joe Biden into a saint on this way out the door.  Republicans have a case to prove and if they can, the DOJ ought to be forced to deal with it.
