Why Should Donald Trump Care About Making America Great Again?
I think this is the most consequential question that Trump supporters and Trump haters ought to be asking: Why is he doing this? Why does he care? What is he trying to accomplish?
It can’t be to enrich himself.
Forbes says he’s worth about $4.6 billion. Bloomberg say it’s much higher at $7 billion and change. And yet, I hear it all the time from deranged haters that Trump is just in it for himself and to cut taxes for billionaires. That’s what Chuck Schumer says.
So, Trump is willing to face all the lawfare, and even be shot to get a tax cut for the rich? Do Trump haters even listen to their own illogic? Then, what it’s really about? I think I know. Trump, who has succeeded in pretty much everything he’s done in his field, sees an irresistible challenge. Trump sees America in decline, and he believes that he is the only one who can save it.

If you’re about to bring up Trump’s failures, bankruptcies, lies, womanizing, nasty language, temperament, loyalty tests, bombastic style, just drop it now.
I’m aware of all that. I’ve talked about every iota of it on the radio since Trump came into the political picture. I simply refer you to the statement above. Trump is rich, and doesn’t need to go through what Democrats put him through, and he damn sure doesn’t need to worry about some left-wing nutcase taking a shot at him at a rally. Would you do that? Would I? Not likely.

So, use your head. What things in life would any man want, and then check the boxes for Donald Trump. Money? Check. Power? He’s the head of a gigantic real estate company. Fame? He was on Oprah decades ago, and his own reality shows on NBC. Beautiful women? Well, sure. So far as I know, Donald Trump has all these things plus good health for a man of his age. He could take it easy, travel the world, sign autographs, and just be Trump.

However, there is a kind of man or woman that has the kinetic energy of Clark Kent and refuses to stop and smell the roses. I’m like that, but on a smaller scale, of course. In the past decade, I’ve continued to work in talk radio, write a weekly column, create marketing materials for The Epoch Times, assist the Lady of Logic with a vintage furniture business, maintain my political website (WBDaily), start a podcast called Planet Logic, play live music in retirement communities, book other musicians, and publish my short story collections and market them in a series of books.
I also mow my own lawn. I’m not far behind Trump in age, but why slow down?

People need a goal, a reason to exist. This may sound boring to you, but when the talk radio is done, and the other activities dwindle, I might yet write a long novel. It’s plotted, but there is no time to write it. But when I reach a point where I can, why not do it? Oh, and I want to see the three stories in my trilogy Stitches in Time, made to a series of Hollywood movies. Again, not likely. But with no goals, what is life for?
I think that’s where Trump’s mind is. And Elon Musk’s.
I have often asked – if not Trump, then who? And if not Musk and DOGE, then what? I’m talking about the United States circling the drain with respect to the National Debt, now at $36,500,000,000,000. This is an ungodly amount of debt that makes me feel about our country the way I would feel if I owed a couple of million dollars in mortgages, credit cards, student loans, and other encumbrances.
The fact is that I have gotten my financial life in a decent order. I’m very close to having zero debt, excluding the necessities of life such as utilities, food, insurance, and taxes. It’s not like that for the country.

As a logical human being, I have often said, with apologies to Dave Ramsey, that what I do with money that I don’t have is that I don’t spend it. Don’t try to diagram that sentence, but simply try to understand it. If you want a BMW, but you can’t afford it, drive a used Chevrolet and put some money back for a rainy day. Can this type of logic be applied to a nation? That is what we are about to find out.
Why is Trump doing this? Why is Musk?
This is what I think. With Trump, I see this as his final challenge, and his final conceit. It’s like that skating rink in New York that he got done when government floundered. It’s as if he’s thinking:
I’m Donald Trump, and if no one else can make American great again, then I will do it.
Fine; I’m putting words in Trump’s mouth. I see him telling Melania and some of his rich friends how stupid he thinks the members of the U.S. House and Senate are, and how selfish they are as they cling to office, often until they die. If Trump is anything like me, he sees the country withering under the burden of crushing debt, and thinks that he can fix it.
Video: The DOGE team goes on FOX News to talk about eliminating fraud and waste.
I’ve often thought I could fix it. But here’s the big difference in our thinking.
I think it is the “billionaire syndrome” I’ve talked about on the radio. In my case, I know what has to be done, but in my mind, I realize there’s no way to get lazy congressmen off their asses to do it. As a constitutionist, I see the need to work with Congress to accomplish spending goals and get the debt paid down. But my head bows low when I try to think of ways to accomplish this. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is a case in point. If you try to cut a dime of government spending, Schumer, who is a blithering idiot, will smear you with class envy.

But Trump doesn’t care. As a billionaire, he is totally confident that he and he alone can accomplish what prior presidents did not. He has no money worries. He is term-limited. He knows he has four years to turn the ship and avoid the iceberg. Musk, inspired by Trump, wants to be a part of history in the making. Musk can’t run for president and he too is fixed for life when it comes to wealth. So why not attempt to do the impossible and save the freaking country?
But, what about Congress?
Trump knows that we have a few good members of the House and Senate, but he knows that roughly half are tax-and-spend Democrats, and many of the Republicans are worthless so far as cutting the bureaucracy and paying down the debt. So, he’s doing it on his own.
He brought in Musk, created DOGE, and turned Elon loose with his team of ultra-successful businessmen who know how to find waste and fraud. He put together his cabinet with MAGA people who will cut, slice, and abolish when necessary – even to eliminating entire departments such as the worthless Department of Education.
I suspect that this is not a trade war all. I think the higher the tariffs go, the better Trump likes them. If Canada imposes a 100 percent tariff on U.S. goods, Trump will impose a 150 percent tariff and he will never stop. If trade comes to a halt, Trump will revel in the idea that the goods will now the made in America. Look at the tags on your goods. Most are made in Mexico or China. Bringing a robust automobile manufacturing segment back to our shores would be game-changing. Cars might be more expensive, and the unions might have to be busted, but this could work out to a far stronger, more self-sufficient, more powerful America by far.
Video: at about 5:00 into this video, Chuck Schumer gets to his standard class envy argument.
I can see the logic. Trump’s plan may be the medicine America needs, but could never get from run-of-the mill politicians and frauds like Chuck Schumer.
There are two ways to proceed. The old way, and the Trump way. The old way had us headed toward an oncoming train at breakneck speed. The crippling National Debt is our existential threat – not climate change. The Trump way understands that, but most of all, it recognizes that the status quo is a national death sentence.
Hate Trump if you must, but he has taken on a challenge with little benefit to himself, yet laden with great danger. A fortunate turn of the head kept him alive, and preserved the MAGA movement. But the haters still hate, and they might yet prevail. Then, someone else will have to step up to save our country. I have racked my brain trying to figure out who it might be.
