If President Trump Acted Presidential

President Trump has a unique personality among all the presidents of the modern age.

It’s well-known that the President doesn’t like to lose; in fact, he refuses to lose and will do whatever it takes to avoid even the perception of a loss.  He enjoys demeaning his political opponents of both parties with condescending nicknames like Sleepy Joe or Crooked Hillary.

Perhaps his least endearing trait is ego-related: getting his name on an airport or a performing arts center, or his face on a coin.  Much like the ShamWow guy, he hawks merchandise from watches to sneakers.  He often calls reporters “a terrible person” if they ask a question he doesn’t like.  This is all fortunate for Democrats.  If Trump were a normal, “presidential” president, they’d likely be extinct.

Nope; I don’t suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Accuse me of it all you like.  But I voted for him three times, and wrote many columns related to why the United States was in need of a junkyard dog to clean up the Biden disaster.  And he did rectify some of it.  Trump proved that Biden was full of crap when he claimed he couldn’t fix the border without legislation.  We all knew that was baloney.  Biden wanted millions of illegals to come breach our border and eventually become naturalized Democratic Party voters.  Trump closed the border, ramped up deportations, and got the crime rate down.

Trump also worked to end the insanity of the Left.  He opposed the morally-corrupt practice of cutting up children to rearrange their organs for the purpose of sex-change, which isn’t even possible.  He virtually stopped cancel culture, and got a lot of the racist and immoral diversity/equity/inclusion garbage out of our schools.  (This was over the dead bodies of most left-wing professors, who still inject this rot into the classroom.)

I was among the first to praise him for his efforts to take down Iran.  No other president would.  We are safer because he took out their nuclear weapons programs, but he gets very little credit for that.

So, yes, I think he done a lot of good things.  But his personality has become a major problem.

Trump is a narcissist.  Many of us are, but most of us are not the most powerful person on the planet who’s also worth billions of dollars.  That kind of power, combined with vast wealth, has made Trump feel impervious to any consequences.

Out on the campaign trail, the Left has used the Iran War (which has made the United States safer) to attack Trump for high fuel prices, while forgetting what they were under Biden.  In Michigan, during the Senate campaign, you could ask Abdul Ed-Sayed anything, and his answer would likely be:  gasoline is too high.  That’s tried-and-true focus group campaigning.  Find the voters’ pain point and promise to fix it, even if you have no idea how to fix it, which El-Sayed certainly did not.

But his carping on that issue made him appear to care.  He was trying to be Bill Clinton and feel the pain of the ordinary American.  Was Trump doing that?  No.  While El-Sayed and most Democrats were focusing on affordability, Trump wrote a long Truth Social tirade about how much he despises Bill Maher.

Trump would do rallies and speak for over an hour, and talk about how he won three presidential elections, but was cheated out of one of them.  He talked a lot about people’s asses – both male asses and female ones.  He talked about the Reflecting Pool.  And the Big Beautiful Ballroom.  And the Trump Arch.  And Trump accounts.  And the D.C. golf course.  And, of course, he claimed that Republicans would win if voters just pretended he was on the ballot.

Video:  “You may even get tired of winning…”

El-Sayed was feeling your pain.  Trump was talking about himself.

The idea that, well, this is just Trump — he’s a brash New Yorker from the Bronx wore out on some people.  Beyond that, Trump sometimes insulted the people he was trying to help.  Ken Paxton likely couldn’t figure out if Trump was for him or not.

Perhaps the worst thing Trump and some other Republicans have done is talk about how great the economy is.  You know – how great job creation is, and how we’re bring more manufacturing back to America, and how stocks are setting record highs.  All is great.  Two chickens in every pot.  And if voters happened to hear this on their car radios while pumping $5 gasoline, it probably went over like a lead balloon.  The cost of gasoline, diesel, and groceries were what people were worried about.  Instead, Trump gave them the Reflecting Pool, a ballroom, and tried to sell them watches.

But if you asked him about it: “You’re a terrible person.”  Reporters, who are paid handsome salaries at the top level to ask hard questions, likely considered it a badge of honor to be repudiated by Trump.  Meanwhile, Trump did something no other president had ever done. He sued the media, CBS, ABC, the BBC – you name it.  Not that they didn’t deserve it, but he actually sued them and won.  Most presidents simply grumbled and moved on, but not Trump.

What if Trump had acted presidential?

We’d be living in a different world.  Imagine a non-narcissist Trump with just the normal amount of ego that your run-of-the-mill politician has.  (Most of them look in the mirror and see the next president.)  Imagine a president who went on TV and told the American people why Iran was a threat to the world.  Or a Trump who had the backing of Congress before going to war.

Just think about it.  Take away the Reflecting Pools, ballrooms, Trump-Kennedy Centers, Gulf of Americas, Trump coins/watches/sneakers/Bibles/accounts/airports, and such.  Take away the “gift” of an airplane from Qatar.   Imagine Trump as a normal, Reagan-like or JFK-like president in these days of left-wing insanity.

Democrats have gone mad.

New York City, where Islamists knocked down the World Trade Center, has an Islamic mayor.  Democrats want men in women’s sports and think little boys can have their penises removed and add a vagina and – poof!  He’s a she.

The Democratic Socialists of America have shown us that we’re not safe from Communism.  The biggest up-and-coming star in the Democratic Party is a young female bartender from New York who thinks Climate Change will destroy us and capitalism is a bad system and we should not have any borders.

This party – the Democrats or as Trump would say, the Dumbocrats, ought to be nothing but a memory by now.  Democrats have worked to destroy our cities, our schools and our free market system.  They are openly Communists now, and they smell blood in the water.

The voters see that.  In any normal time, they would go to the polls and crush the Democrats, likely for all time.  Just a few years ago, pundits wondered if the Democrats could withstand all the insanity within their party.  But they did, and there’s a reason for that.

Trump’s ego and the crazy things he says and sometimes does have overridden the insanity of the Democrats.  Trump let them off the hook by appearing to be even crazier than they are.  He won three times.  The Iran War was over in an hour.  Rename the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump.  And by the way, would you like to buy a watch?

Any way you look at it, if Trump had taken a page from Clinton and just once said: “I feel your pain,” the Democrats might be finished.  Instead, he told suffering Americans that he had created a Golden Age.

If President Trump had just acted presidential, oh what a different world this would be.
