Good Trump Bad Trump
There’s no question that President Donald J. Trump can be frustrating.
He constantly does things and says things that you would expect from a junior high schoolboy. He uses the presidency to make money. He wants that damn Nobel Peace Prize, and he isn’t the type of person who forgives and forgets.
All those things are true.
But when the final chapter is written, will Trump have accomplished anything that will ring through history to make him a great president? The Abraham Accords come to mind, but the good part of Trump extends beyond that. Three things make me glad I voted for him three times. First, he secured the southern border after the Joe Biden disaster. Second, he’s taken steps to end the era of diversity, equity and inclusion. And he’s prevented Iran from having a nuclear weapon. That’s not a bad record.

Never Trumpers hate him because he’s Trump.
The Left hates him, and that’s understandable. The way they think and process information, they could never give any credit to a president that clings to old, traditional, outdated ideas – such as how to define a woman. Trump knows one when he sees one, even if Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson can’t figure it out.
On the other hand, not all Never-Trumpers are leftists. Lots of conservatives see no way to give the President any credit for anything. Not for securing the border. Not for Operation Midnight Hammer. Not for the Venezuela affair that seems mostly successful. Not for anything. That’s short-sighted.

Let’s start with Good Trump.
I’ve chosen three things that Trump ought to be remembered for positively. Number One is that Trump has declared that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon and he’s backed that up. Operation Midnight Hammer was said by the administration to have “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, but then the issue of remaining fissile material was raised, and Trump decided to put an end to the Iranian nonsense once and for all, and he started the current war on February 28.

No one likes war, and Trump promised no forever wars, but he’s right about Iran. The regime hates America, has hated us since 1979, and has killed thousands of Americans and Israelis over the past 47 years. No other president has had the gall to try to take Iran out as a terrorist state, until Trump. Midnight Hammer likely did the job, and the war was supposed to be a cleanup job. Iran has held on longer that Trump thought they could but they’re in trouble.

The question to my friends on the Right and on the Left: do you think the Middle East and the world are safer because of what Trump has done? Of course you don’t, but that doesn’t mean you’re right. Iran is a shadow of what it was prior to the war, and even if we left now, even with Iran roiling the Strait of Hormuz, the world is safer. Gasoline costs more, though, so some of you will vote for Democrats. Frankly, that’s dumb.
Trump also has secured the southern border after Biden lied and said it would take legislation to do it. He made a turnaround when his numbers collapsed, but the damage was done. No one knows how many people crossed into America illegally, but estimates range as high as 10 million – and that estimate could be low. Murderers came in along with drug cartels and human traffickers and the Left did not care. A young University of Georgia student, Laken Riley, became the face of Biden’s border policy when she was brutally murdered by an illegal alien. The Left did not and still does not care. Trump did. He fixed the border and made it secure. Now ICE has become the villain because of “harsh” enforcement. The mass deportation effort might have been handled better, but it had to happen. So far, Trump’s deportations are nowhere near the numbers that Biden let in. The two people that were killed were protesting and interfering in law enforcement efforts. It’s tragic that they died, but had they protested peacefully, they’d still be alive today.

The third thing I’ll mention is Trump’s effort to stop the trendy (at the time) new racism called DEI. It was infiltrating our local schools, colleges and universities, corporations, and government. Biden and the Dems were big supporters. Trump saw it as an attack on merit, and he issued orders to stop it. Cities and companies were spending millions of dollars on “diversity departments” that were overtly racist and never brought in one cent of profits. Colleges went bat-guano crazy over diversity with all kind of degree programs that are now being shed in Texas. Because of Trump, the heyday of diversity is over, and it couldn’t have happened to a more disgusting movement.
Yes; there’s also bad Trump.
Three things here as well. First is his getevenism with regard to his many grievances. I get it that he came under withering attack, and had to deal with constant lawfare, and multiple impeachments. But he won the presidency again in 2024, and in my mind, that should have put the plug in the jug on the “stolen election” grievance. I can name all the irregularities about the 2020 election, but Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris ought to have settled the issue. Time to move on, but Trump can’t. On the other hand, the 51 members of the Intelligence Community that signed a letter stating that the Hunter Biden laptop was most likely Russian propaganda an interference knew better. They lied, and prosecuting them makes sense. But prosecuting former FBI Director James Comey, who is a narcissist himself, over an alignment of seashells makes no sense. Move on.

Second is Trump’s delusions of greatness. That’s for history to decide, and his constant efforts to immortalize himself as the greatest president ever may actually have the opposite effect. It would be nice if Trump and his allies would stop naming everything after him. The Kennedy Center board added Trump’s name. A Florida airport renamed itself after Trump. We have the Trump Accounts, and a Trump coin. It never stops. It’s not harming anything, but it’s annoying. Trump is also easy to trigger about his failure so far to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He can go off on that at any time in any speech or interview, and often does. Before long, he might even rename the country as the United States of Trumpia. In fairness, Biden was worse. The claims Joe made about being arrested with Nelson Mandela and beating up the villain Corn Pop rank with the best of presidential fiction.

Then, there’s Trump’s business side – a constant need to make a profit. As President, Trump has cashed in on selling sneakers, fragrances, crypto, Bibles, and wristwatches. It’s unsettling to me to see Trump as TV as a pitchman for the watches. He’s like the ShamWow guy. He’s the President, for heaven’s sake. He’s also the promoter-in chief with sports events on the White House lawn that he likely made a penny or two for his efforts.

Trump is not perfect, but he’s not Joe Biden either.
All I am saying is that Trump has accomplishments far beyond what Biden ever dreamed of. Joe left us with 13 dead American service members in Afghanistan, a wide-open border, and massive inflation – worse that what we’re seeing now. Trump, with all his narcissism, has made a serious impact on the world by defanging the ayatollahs in Iran. He should be judged both by what he has done wrong, and by what he has done to make the United States and the world a safe place. The likely nuclear arms race in the Middle East that Trump appears to have stopped might actually be worth the Nobel Peace Prize. If he’d stop griping about it, maybe someday he’ll actually earn it.
