Democrat Causes that Have No Point
Ronald Reagan, in his famous “A Time for Choosing” speech made this point about the Left: Reagan said,
“The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”
That was in 1964, long before Reagan became president. And today, it still rings true.

Taking it a step further, so much of what our liberal friends want to accomplish is virtually impossible, and therefore unproductive.
They want to control the weather and make the planet cooler. The want to provide free healthcare, but free stuff from the government is really expensive. They want equity for all, but all people don’t have the same talents. They want to end poverty and they’ve made it worse. They support a transgender ideology that is scientifically impossible.
In short, the Left spends way too much time and money on things that simply cannot be done.

Conservatives are far more pragmatic.
As a conservative, here are a few things I’d like to see accomplished. I’ll start by saying I want a safe and free country to live in, so law enforcement is important, and is a strong military to serve as a deterrent against rogue nations like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. I want a secure border, because I think real nations must protect their people and their culture by making sure that people who emigrate want to assimilate and be productive citizens.
I’m not a climate change enthusiast as most liberals are, but I believe in conservation, protecting our environment in logical ways and making sure our air and water are clean. Governments from the very top in Washington to city councils and school boards should be empowered to make commonsense decisions about local businesses, industries, and schools without overburdening regulations. The capitalistic system should be allowed to work.

On the economic front, we should rein in our spendthrift Congress and begin the hard work of paying down at least part of our $40,000,000,000,000 National Debt, which I capitalize to show how important that is. We need to find ways to make healthcare and education less expensive, but those should be private-sector solutions. There’s more but you get the idea. These are all things that are important to keeping America strong and secure, and they are all things that can be done if we have the will.

On the other hand, so much of the agenda of the Left is largely beyond the scope of human control.
Climate Change.
This, along with abortion on demand and hatred of Donald Trump, has become a religion to the Left. The warnings from people like Al Gore and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been frequent, and scary. And almost always wrong. The idea of spending billions of dollars – and even putting up large bond issues like Austin may do, to change the climate is insane. Earth will survive and prosper, and someday we’ll be in a cooling cycle. Ask yourself, how many billions or trillions of dollars is it worth to change the average temperature by some small fraction of a degree?
Universal free healthcare.
The Left is correct that healthcare costs are out of control and that some people are priced out. Their answer to this is the Affordable Care Act, known colloquially as Obamacare, so that markets would be set up for people to purchase cheaper plans. The idea was to force younger, healthier people into the market to spread the cost around. But as we have learned, Obamacare only works if heavily subsided by the government. It’s not possible to pass a bill, create a website, and magically see costs go down. There are ways the government might bring down costs, but the best way would be to have more competition in the marketplace. The way it works today, most people have no idea what a procedure costs, and very few people ever shop around to find the best deal.

Video: LBJ declares war on poverty
The War on Poverty.
This was part of President Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, and, as with most left-wing schemes, it involves copious amounts of government money. Democrats like to pass all manner of things to help poor people, but they usually backfire. Raise the minimum wage, and some fast-food chains will stop hiring counter workers. Put in vast welfare programs, especially for single parent mothers, and you’ll get more single parent mothers. The term “welfare queen” may be harsh, but lots of woman, and men, know how to work the system. The more programs the Left proposes, it seems like the worse the problems become. Look at the government’s own numbers on single-parent families since the days of LBJ, and you’ll see the results of his war on poverty.

The transgender agenda.
Nothing makes me sadder than to see or read about a child that has been surgically mutilated by some quack doctor to change the child into something he or she can never be. And yet some department stores now advertise “chest binders” for young girls to keep their breasts from developing naturally, so they can pretend to be boys. And boys that have their genitals removed and rebuilt to simulate a vagina are just tragic. It is scientifically impossible to change someone’s sex. Hospitals do it for the money, and the Left celebrates it. It’s not possible. It needs to stop.
Equity.
The Beach Boys had a song called “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” It wasn’t about equity, but about wish-fulfillment between two young people. In the case of equity, there are so many factors at play that it cannot be wished into existence. There will always be people with talents other people don’t have, and some people will be far more driven to succeed than others. The idea of government demanding that all people be equal sounds like a bad science-fiction plot. Not possible. A better idea is to make education more affordable, which is doable, and work to keep families intact. That would do a lot more for young people than government-mandated equity.
There are things that can be done, and things that cannot.
With a more responsible Congress, we could bring down the National Debt. We can help people have better lives with a level playing field, and by creating incentives for moms and dads to stay together. We can safeguard our borders and maintain our Melting Pot culture that has served us so well for 250 years but has been challenged by multiculturalism, which is dangerous.

Democrats, on the other hand seem to delight in championing causes that are impossible. In the examples we’re mentioned, the only result is billions of dollars down the drain and worse societal problems that we had before.
A little bit of logic goes a long way in the world of politics.
I’m not saying Republicans are totally logical; they are far from it. They spend too much, and get too involved with money and lobbyists just as the Democrats do. But at least most of their priorities are possible. That is to say, with some hard work and a little bit of help from the Democrats, existential problems such as the National Debt actually can be addressed.
