The Leftist Agenda is Splitting in Two
A lot of heads were turned in late July when Megan Romer, co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, went on Fox News Sunday. A great deal of those heads belonged to Democrats.
That interview, conducted by Shannon Bream, immediately went viral, and laid bare the agenda of a growing portion of the Democratic Party.
Essentially, while MAGA wants to Make America Great Again, the DSA wing of the Democrats wants to abolish America and replace it with a Marxist workers’ movement.
Establishment Democrats like CNN’s Van Jones and former Chicago Mayor Rham Emanuel are worried, and they should be. The DSA is seemingly part of the traditional Democratic Party, which needs votes to stop Trump. The establishment doesn’t want them, but can’t afford to offend them.
It’s bad news for the Dems, but great for Republicans.

The Republican Party is split too, but it’s not the same.
Back in the Obama days, the GOP saw a rebellion among its members with the rise of the new Tea Party. T-E-A stood for “Taxed Enough Already,” and was an intra-party movement demanding smaller government, less government spending, and tax relief. Branches sprung up around America, and the Tea Party wielded a great deal of influence at the height of its power.
But here’s the difference.
The Tea Party agenda wasn’t much different from that of the establishment Republican Party, except that the Tea Party wanted Congressional Republicans to mean it. Republicans have always talked big about smaller government, but yet the National Debt, then as now, was growing and government kept getting larger.

The local Tea Party where I lived in Bell County, Texas was active and I wrote a song for them entitled: “Take a Stand.” I made a recording of it and they used it in a rally on the courthouse steps. I performed the song in person to the Bell County Republican annual fundraiser with now-Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick sitting in the front row of a packed Expo Center.
Of course, we kept spending and the National Debt is at almost $40 trillion, but that’s not the point. The point is that the establishment Republicans and the Tea Party were on the same team. The Tea Party was simply trying to force Republican politicians to keep their campaign promises.
It’s the same with MAGA.
Trump came in like a bolt from the blue with MAGA and “America First,” and a lot of Republicans liked that. They chanted “Drain the Swamp,” which sounded just like the Tea Party. And they wanted Congress to take care of our country before policing the world. Trump and Elon Musk tried to DOGE the government, but with every cut, the Swamp fought back. And the National Debt is on track to grow faster than ever. As for America First, we’re now in a war with Iran. However, and this is important, neither MAGA nor America First is far out of the mainstream of the Republican Party.
The split in the Democratic Party is far more dangerous to that party’s survival.
When Megan Romer went on Fox News Sunday, she did not shy away from what her organization stands for. Host Shannon Bream laid it all out, and Romer confirmed every iota of it.
Your “normal” Democrat is as predictable as Monday following Sunday: They like to tax-and-spend. They support high taxation to fund social programs. They support a large and powerful government. They are for abortion on demand. They support the LGBTQ agenda.

Lately, though, things have been getting out of control, even in the mainstream Democratic Party. They’ve embraced the 1619 Project, DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and are pushing this ideology in schools, they support men and boys competing in women’s sports, they believe that biological sex is a choice, and (under Joe Biden) they erased the southern border. They even managed to get a justice confirmed to the Supreme Court who can’t or won’t define what a woman is. So, they’re nuts to begin with.
But then comes the DSA.
Austin City Council speakers became a harbinger.
Members of the Austin DSA have been signing up to make speeches before the City Council for a long time, and we made fun of them. But their power has grown on a national scale. And they are more now than just a few kooks who lecture Austin City Fathers and Mothers.
In Austin and Travis County, they have a decent amount of power on the City Council, on the Travis County Commissioners Court, and in the local office of District Attorney Jose Garza. They’re a nuisance when they take up speaking time before the Council, but they are also dangerous and should not be ignored. In cities like Austin, Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco, their numbers are not negligible.
When Megan Romer lifted the veil.
It came down like this: Shannon Bream ticked off the agenda, and it was shocking, yet Romer affirmed every single point. Per Fox News:
“[You’re advocating for] abolish[ing] the Senate?” Bream asked. “True,” Romer responded.
Romer also affirmed the organization’s support for replacing the presidency and Supreme Court, abolishing ICE, eventually eliminating national borders while granting amnesty to people living in the country illegally, defunding the Pentagon, phasing out prisons and shifting most large corporations to public ownership.
She said some proposals, including abolishing borders and prisons, are part of the organization’s long-term vision.
What Romer and the DSA stand for are not reforms; they’re a total dismantling of the institutions that have made America the envy of the world for 250 years. The DSA would take over the means of production signifying an end to capitalism as we know it. There would be no president, no Senate, no prisons, no corporations, no borders. Good-bye, America and hello Cuba!

No actual Democrat advocates these things, and that’s a big problem for them. They’ve already been dealing with members like Rep. Alexandria Ocascio Cortez and Rep. Ilhan Omar, and the Squad, which are in tune with the DSA, and now come Romer and her bunch. The Democratic Party can’t take much more of this.
Trump may clash with establishment members of Congress such as outgoing Texas Senator John Cornyn, but MAGA’s relationship to the old Republican Party is manageable. The Republican Party weathered the Tea Party, and MAGA will, someday, be seamlessly assimilated into the GOP. But the DSA agenda can never be part of the old Democratic Party.

If the DSA continues to grow and to have success at the polls, it will necessarily break away from the Democrats and become a standalone party. And it should. Actual Democrats are not for doing away with the Senate, or the presidency. The DSA is in favor of those things.
If the two factions split and the DSA becomes a political party on its own, will either of them have the votes to elect a president or gain control of the Congress? Perhaps not, and that’s why Van Jones, Rham Emanuel, and Chuck Schumer would like to see the DSA go away. Even though the DSA movement may help elect more Republicans in the short term, we’d all better hope the DSA peters out sooner than later. This movement is beyond dangerous.
